ICONIX Selling Peanuts & Strawberry Shortcake

Iconix is in a bad way.  First Met life fires Snoopy as their official mascot...NOW...the entire peanuts line is for sale most likely to be bought by Chinese investors.

Also owned by Iconix and ALSO going up for sale...Strawberry Shortcake.  They recently purchased the rights and were set to develop a new animated series based upon the original.

I guess that's on hold.

Rethinking Ditching Yahoo

Im having second thoughts about ditching Yahoo.

They haven't done anything to reassure me that any of their security protocols actually work...however...

Cancelling my yahoo account will lock me out of the Micropolis Embassy Collector's Group.  A Yahoo based Collector's group.  The information archived there is immeasurable and I dont want my access to this information impeded.

So Im going to rethink this.

3 3/4" Glider Packs Discontinued

Please note...Past figure accessories included a Glider Pack.  Glider Packs have been discontinued in favor of the Missile Pack.  The missile pack will be made available separately for those who purchased past figures once I get some made.

To those who purchased figures with a glider pack, should you accidentally break your glider pack,  no replacement parts will be available.  Instead you will be offered a Missile Pack as a replacement.

Also, "ALL" Roboid/Deimos figures made from this point on will no longer have the chest canopy screwed in.  The screw has been eliminated and the canopy will be glued in.  None of the Deimos figures have the canopy screwed in which saved me a lot of work and allowed me to significantly drop the price of Deimos.

Figures, Marauder, This N That

Work is ongoing on 3 3/4" figures.  Im finding balance and enjoying it.  Im taking a break from making 3 3/4" figures this weekend to make a couple of molds.  Then I will FINALLY be able to make a finished version of Marauder.  I have no idea at this time how far to take Marauder, but Im taking a slower, less stressful approach to goals/dreams.  Im happy with it now so why tarnish a good thing by pushing too hard.

Among the various 3 3/4" figures I making for September's Sale will be a couple of Crystal Roboids.  I have no idea on how many I'll make and how many will be full urethane.  We'll see how it hits me.  The less promises/commitments I make, the more I seem to get done.  lol.

Please note that I am no longer screwing the Chest Canopy on.  The screws have been eliminated on all Roboids after the original run.

At present...Im currently making the missile packs one unit with the missiles glued in to the holder.  Mostly because frequent playability and continual use runs the risk of breakage because the pins are very thin in diameter.

I a toying with the idea of making magnetic feet as well as a 5 mm peg hole in 3 3/4" figures.

We'll see...I have a mentally draining week coming up.  So Im going to keep things simple for myself right now.

Yes Im Still Here

That's the problem with being a one man show.  There is only so much you can do at once.

Once the molds are made, there's precious little to talk about at that point.  The time is then toput the molds to use and make stuff.  And that's where I am.  I have made 8 figures and am going strong making more.

I got the new head for Jade to replace my lost master.  Im making a mold for Marauder which when done will mean...5" Marauder is very close to seeing the light of day.

Plus Im trying to put together my new comedy crime fighting duo.  The concept is hilarious according to others.

So while it seems quiet over here...Im working VERY hard making figures.  I just simply do one thing at a time.  I'd post pics but I don't want to ease anyone until they are all ready.

Makig Figures & Enjoying It

Its kinda quiet on the blog front I know, but behind the scenes Im having a blast.  I do one thing at a time and focus on that.  So while I still have video's to make, if Im sanding, I only sand.  No multi-tasking.  In the last couple of weeks I've made 8 figures and have more coming.  I'd really like to have a nice assortment for September's sale which I hope to make an annual event.

Im hoping to have at least a couple of 5" Marauder figures.  Hoping, but we'll see if time allows it.  Once I blow out a mold or two and need to make or replace a mold or two, we'll look at Sprue Molds.

There really is an incredible amount of work involved and it doesn't take much to get lost/focused in one direction.  So I dont bother fighting it.

Its working so far.  :-)

New Poll on MAGNETS

I have a new poll up on the right.

I can put magnets in the feet of my figures.  Does this appal to you?  Do you care?

Pease vote on the Poll.  If you are not able to, please email me.  Id really like to know what people in general think.  If its appealing, I might do it to all my figures.  If it isn't, then its extra work I don't have to do.

So please...let me know either on the poll or by email.   golddober@gmail.com

You Lost What?

The super nice master in hi detail for Jade.  Some how...I lost it.  This is a first but fortunately I can replace it.  I need to make another mold of the head and I'll be damned if I can find.  I ordered another and it'll be here in 2 weeks.

What was more surprising was the stuff I found looking for it.  You know the stuff Im talking about.  You put it somewhere safe so you wont forget about it.   So there was that....finding things I know I would be looking for real soon.

While replacing the lost head is easy enough...It still bugs me that I lost it in the first place.

You now what they say...It only happens once.

When it arrives I'll make Ronin.  Then its just the matching Steeds.  I will remake my former magno collection in 3 3/4" format.  Ambitious?  Maybe a little bit...but when its done...

:-)

MOLD SPLIT

The fun with silicone molds is we can put the mold split line wherever we want.  We can encase the entire master, just so long as its easy to remove from the mold with the closest replication and least amount of sanding and least amount of detail affected.  Silicone provides the flexibility to stretch the mold slightly for cast removal.

I try to avoid running a mold split down a 5mm peg.    If at all possible, I prefer to encase it and run the mold split down an area that's easily sanded with the least amount of detail.  Like a corner or edge.

Here's an example of both.
Here, the peg is fully encased currently in clay, which when removed will be replaced with silicone.  Also the mold split line goes through the top of the head where there is no detail and down the middle of his face again where there is little to no detail and a natural ridge dividing the face in half and then along the neck edge to the back side where the mold split is moved to follow the natural edges between detail to avoid as little disruption to detail as possible when sanding.

Sanding Away

Im slowly going through my dishes making figures.  This morning I finished an all clear Overlord.  Still needs a wash, some black detail paint and a clear coat.  This ones for me as part of my magno replacement project.  They are SO hard on my fingers but worth it in the end.

My plan is to hold an annual sale every September where upon the items made over the course of a year will be displayed and sold.

So far, we're off to a good start.

ADMINISTRATOR OVER RIDE-OT

January...Long cold winter...Shiftwork...Seasonal Affective Disorder

We're taking a time out from winter.

At least once every 2-3 weeks, I wake up from a dream where Im driving my car only to be hit with the reality of winter when I come to 20 seconds later.  I got 3 months...maybe 4 before "PRISS"  can hit the streets.  She's not a T-Top.  That's a vinyl roof.  She's all original fully documented from the dealership.  Fully loaded.  Im the 3rd owner.

PRISS...that's her name...Short for Empress.  A co-worker loves his rice burners.  Even if you don't like the cars you cant help but admire the engineering.  Over 1900 HORSEPOWER in some of these imports with their turbo's.  They'll blow me away at a red light with my 401 carbureted motor.

My co worker is building some 4 cylinder rice burner with front wheel drive.  I own a 1972 AMC JAVELIN AMX.. 355 Horsepower...and all I can think is...Holy Shit...My Javelin is about 250 lbs "LIGHTER" than his rice burner.  Even with posi, my ass end is all over the road.  I couldn't imagine having more power under my hood.  Car...meet pole.

Im looking forward to this seasons Show and Shine...But damn its a lonnnng winter.  I needed a little pick me up so thanks for putting up with this post.

GOLDDOBER With BIGMAN TOYS Present: JADE

Its so cool.  No stress.  And because of that, Im coming up with simple answers to problems that were bothering me.  Simple answers that cut valuable wear and tear off of my fingers.  And cut time off of assembly.  But more importantly its the "type" of work it cut out.  A painful long drawn out process that resulted in blistered fingers, frustration and festered a lack of desire to make these.

In the last week, I have made 3 Deimos figures and Jade.  They all need a final wash, some detail painting and some clear coat.  I have dishes of clear urethane parts.  Hopefully this is a new found desire that will last and not some simple surge.

But hey...its fun again.  So I might as well blast out as many figures as I can while I have this energy.  Next week I'll make Ronin.  A 3 3/4" King Atlas.

Here's Jade.  Sorry...taking pictures has always been a chore for me.  Someday I'll get the hang of it.

Lee is an accomplished artist and self taught in 3D modelling.  He did a wonderful job modeling the head for this figure.  I was quite happy when he agreed to help me out.

Jade is not currently
for sale.  Im not scrambling to have a pre order or rush to make a bunch.  Im making a whole bunch of figures.  Jade and Ronin and a few other variants of figures.  Some clear urethane figures.  Whatever grabs me.  When I get a bunch made...probably this summer...I'll put a bunch up for sale.

There will not be any fancy artwork when these do become available.  That's another headache unto itself.  I wont be carding figures anymore.  Except Marauder.  "WHEN" I eventually get him done, he will be carded.  But until then, we're keeping things simple.
