Shelves Are DONE!!!

Yes!!! My Shelves are done.  To some this might not seem like such a big deal, but I needed these made to figure out how much wall space I have left.  I am most likely going to hang my Ken Kelly prints there.

I made this table and shelves for $10 bucks.  $1.35 for the brackets and $8.00 or something like that for the trim. As a machinist I have discovered that I may need something.  It may not be for 10 or 15 years, but I will need "it".  So I keep "it" for when I might someday need "it".  So I had most of the material already.  The shelves and table top are from a corner unit that was in the garage when I bought the house.  I tore it apart, but kept the sides and put them in the trusses of my garage so I could use it for storage space.  I took one down and cut it up to make this corner table unit.

This post is how I made the corner table unit.  I'll have pics of the new arrangement in another post.  So if you dont care how I made the corner unit, then you wont miss anything by skipping the rest of this post.

But if you want to see how easy it was to make,  Then lets go.  :~)

I planned these new shelves with a specific set of guidelines.  I wanted the Dave Dorman Emperor Pencil Sketch on the one side and his Galactic Defender Painting  on the other corner of the table I made.  I wanted 2 shelves and I had 17" of wall space from the ledge down to the table top.  The shelves I was making were 5/8" thick.  So thats 1 1/4" used up for the shelves themselves leaving 15 3/4"  I wanted 2 - 6" spaces which would leave me with 3 3/4" of wall space to the ledge.  Perfect.

I layed out and cut the 2 shelves I  needed from the same material I had used to make my corner table.  Make sure if its got a pattern or grain, you pay attention to that.  You can tell right away something is "off" if you have the grains of one shelf going one way, the next shelf the grain goes a different direction and then the table grain looks weird going in a different direction as well.  Truth be told, I got lucky cutting them.

I still had the edge trim I bought for the table, so I used it on the shelves and then trimmed them up.







It took me both my coffee breaks and my 1/2 hour lunch break, but I machined  4 - 6" shafts and then drilled them out so I could slide a 1/4" NC All Thread bar through it.  I put the shelves together and laid them on the table top as if I was assembling it.  I then drilled 2 holes at the corners of the shelves and right through the table. I put a washer and a nut on the underside of the table and screwed the all thread into it through the table..

I then dropped one of the 6" spacers I made over the allthread.  I did the same at the other corner.  I then put a shelf over the allthread.  I put the second set of 6" spacers on and then the next shelf.  I drilled the hole through the shelves/table pretty close so I had to use a nut on each allthread bar to suck everything down nice and tight. 

This was to my advantage because this kept everything relatively steady so I could cut off the excess All Thread.

Using the same material I made the 6 "spacers from,  I made 2 simple caps.  45 degree  bevel on the one end.  Drilled and tapped on the other end.  Both 1" long.  Sometimes less is more. Simple effective and it looks ok.  I could have made some fancy caps...but why?  This is just as effective.

   

The shelves were nice and firm, but they needed back support. I went to Home hardware and picked up the support brackets for $1.35




And hour to machine to length 4 shafts for 6" spacers, drill them right through, machine, drill and tap 2 caps.  Layout, cut, file the edges of the shelves...1 hour.  Put trim on shelves 1/2 hour.  Assemble and install support brackets another 1/2 hour.  So 3 hours and $10.00 for the trim and brackets.  I imagine if you bought all the materials and looked for deals, you could probably get everything for $40-$50.

I may put in some shelves under the table to store empty boxes and whatnot.  Then all I need is a chair.  My mother is sewing my Transformer Curtains to length for me.  And then my room is complete.  I just need to hang a few pictures, maybe adjust the arrangement every now and then, but my room is complete.  It has taken me 4 years.  And yes those are 1980's handheld video games on my table.  I have a Rubiks cube too.  My fastest time is 57 seconds.  :~)

 I spent the next few hours dusting and rearranging.  I'll have those pics in another post. 

Hulk Explorer And Spidermobile

Recently there was a Batmobile on ebay and I believe there is still a Hulk explorer on ebay or a little over $700.  I manged to pick these 2 up for a song.  The Hulk Explorer is missing the wheels and the dart.  It also needs new screws as the ones in it are rusted.  And also the Spidermobile. it also needs wheels and a few accessories.  I am going to get theses back into shape.  I wouldnt mind making the whole set.

The one thing I have never liked about the Solarion is the ski's and the the thing I dont like about the Trons and a few other vehicles, is the front wheel.

I think the front wheel from the battle cruiser finishes off the look much better.  It makes it look sleek instead of...wonky.  So I am going to make a bunch of these front wheels in various colors.

Fan Art

Its always cool to see artwork.  Its even cooler when its about the thing you like.  David H sent me these Fan Art pics.  They are pretty cool.  Im kinda partial to the Transformers picture myself but its not easy picking a favorite.  Im gonna run the Transformers pic on the header here in a the next few days.

Check them out.  There is an amazing amount of detail and work put into these.

More On Italy's Baronkarlo- Other names

I know that this discussion has been making its way through the forums.  Normally I try to stay away from "Blacklisting".  Things can easily get blown out of proportion with the omission of the slightest detail.  But so much negativity has come from this Baronkarlo,  that I would be negligent as a collector if I didnt pass this information along.

This is an exerpt from a "REPUTABLE"  Italian Collector that I personally have dealt with and trust...

"...be carefull there is an ebay user "baronkarlo" or "padaniarobot" or "daitarncarlo" (the same user) that sell fake and he have a lobstros, ampzilla and much more... dont buy it!!! or you lost your money. say that to all your friend and micronauts collectors, he sell on ebay.com and ebay.it.  Look on his feedback, you can find all the nick/alias he use because he sell himself to have positive feedbacks."

I am sure everyone knows the name Baronkarlo, I just wasnt sure if others were aware of these other 2 names he also uses.

Like I said, I dont normally endorse publicly warning people about other collector's/dealers, but the evidence against this individual is so overwhelming, I would feel real bad if someone else got taken because I didnt pass this information along.

Palisades Uncirculated Centaur Trading Cards

The current Front Page features a slightly unknown piece of Palisades History.  

These cards were thought about and a few made, but none were 'officially' released for sale.  It is my understanding that they were 'swag' items.   Palisades had a "Club" and on their web site they gave away various "swag" items for different things.  One of which was a Palisades T-Shirt.  If they posted your customs on their web site they sent you one.  I  have one in my closet.  I should probably photograph it.  Anyway, It is my belief that these cards were designed as a "swag" item for their web site.  At least that's what I think.

  Ken happened to have a few and threw in a couple when I purchased the Gold Force Commander.  The 3-D Hologram is a cool touch.

Salesman Photo Set

I am hoping sometime Sunday or monday, to have a little show and tell with the salesman set of Micronaut Photo's.   It'll be a nice break from Roboid.  And sometime in June...I will be showcasing something NEVER seen before in the World of Micronauts.  I am not sure exactly how many posts it will entail,  But there is just TOO much there for 1 post...

Homeworld will be digging into the past world of MEGO.  What will I be showcasing...the tease continues.

Fan Art

I was asked a question earlier regarding Fan Art.  Would I host any?

I dont have a problem with it.  Until now, no one has asked and it wasnt something I had thought of.   I dont see any reason not to.  I just have one condition for showing Fan Art here on HomeWorld. 

It must be blog related.

I have 3 topics here that I discuss.  Micronauts, Casting and my best friend, Riley.  My Dog.  Now I cant see anyone here posting about my little buddy, and its pretty hard to draw art from casting information/resins and related equipment, so that leaves Micronauts.  With Micronauts, I include Microman and Transformers and related Bootlegs.

I dont mind overlapping figure lines as long as they contain one of the Big 3 (Micronauts/Microman/Transformers).  For example...Someone draws up Swampthing  with Micronauts flying around or Dr. Doom with Micronauts or Optimus Prime kicking the living S**T out of a Ken Doll.  Hmmm...a movie in the making right there.  lol.

Just send me the photo to gold_dober@yahoo.com with a brief note describing the picture/your inspiration for making it and your permission to display it and first chance I get, I will run it for a week.  If you do want me to run your picture, please note that I may run the photo more than once.  I might very well run it again a few months down the road.

Titan SpaceKnights

After 10 years...I finally have my Titan SpaceKnight.  #10 on my WANT LIST.  Yukiko of YTSS bidding services or known as zira28 on ebay was key in helping me to get this.  I have had the yellow SpaceKnight for years, but the white one has been elusive for me.  I have seen 2...maybe 3 in the last 8-10 years.  None in near the condition this one is in.  Every time one appeared, it was just bad timing for the wallet or it was incomplete.  This one, the box has been opened, but not the contents.

These are exceptionally cool figures.  And you have to love the efficient packaging.  The entire figure and accessories nicely packed into a styro liner inside  a 5 x 4 x 1.5 box...not exactly those dimensions, but close.


10 years...It feels good.



When I first saw the white Spaceknight, I decided to pull out my yellow one.  When I bought it, it was listed as 95% complete.  I have never assembled it.   I just displayed the box.  So I decided to see which part was missing and maybe I could make it.  Imagine my surprise when after doing a check, I found the item is entirely complete.  It was only missing the decal sheet.  :~) 

Hopefully I can squeeze an hour or two to make the 2 little corner shelves to go above my corner table and free up some room on another shelf for all my Microman Figures.  Then I can display these 2 assembled.
